Montigo Fireplace Repair Maple Ridge - BC

Montigo began in 1976 with an installer fitting zero-clearance wood fireplaces for builders, and grew into a maker of linear gas fireplaces, many of them power-vented. On a Maple Ridge service call, the vent and the burner style matter as much as the firebox.

The brand is now part of Empire Comfort Systems, and its catalogue runs from compact square units to fireplaces nearly eight feet wide. Chimney Sweep Maple Ridge services the residential range, and this page explains how to read the model code, what the concealed ribbon burner changes, how the venting differs, and the calls we take most.

Reading a Montigo Model Code Before the Visit

Each series has its own prefix stamped on the plate, which saves guesswork: DRL for DelRay Linear, DRSQ for DelRay Square, P, PL, or L for Phenom, R or RP for Exemplar, and H for the Divine multi-sided units. Suffixes describe the build: D for direct vent, DL for direct vent with louvers, DF for a flush-faced model, and FSD or ST for a see-through. An N or an LP marks the fuel, and an I generally indicates intermittent pilot ignition.

Two units of identical width can still differ a great deal. Many series were sold as a Basic package or a Full Load package, the second adding items such as lighting, liners, and fans as standard. A photo of the plate, the full front, and the media bed lets us confirm which package you have, and therefore which liner panels, lights, and fan parts to bring.

A Montigo model code names the series, the face style, and whether the unit is see-through, so the plate photo settles most parts questions before we arrive.

Concealed Ribbon Burners and Media-Covered Beds

The Phenom was the brand's first residential fireplace with a concealed ribbon burner, a long slotted burner that can be buried under glass media so the flame appears to rise straight out of the bed. The Prodigy and other linear lines use the same idea. The result is clean and modern, but it puts the media in charge of how the gas leaves the burner.

When media is piled too deep, raked into ridges during cleaning, or replaced with a different size, the ribbon of flame breaks up, goes patchy, or turns yellow. On these units we lift and level the media to the depth the manual specifies before judging the flame, and we use only media sold for that burner. The Distinction adds reflective ceramic glass liners and multi-colour LED uplighting as standard, both of which change what a dirty or damaged bed looks like. Its circulating fans come standard as well, and the fan intake under the firebox gathers dust that should be vacuumed out each year.

Direct Vent, Power Vent, and the Pipe Sizes Behind Them

The residential range splits between direct-vent and power-vent fireplaces. DelRay, Phenom, Paragon, Distinction, and Divine units are mostly direct vent, using 4x7, 5x8, or 5x10-inch pipe depending on the model, with approved alternate pipe from several venting makers allowed by the manual. Some can be fitted into an existing chimney using co-linear conversion parts.

The Exemplar is the power-vent series, with viewing widths from about 38 inches up to nearly 98, and its fan-driven venting lets a fireplace sit far from an outside wall. A power vent unit needs electricity and a working fan before it will light, so it stays off during an outage. On any of these, a carbon monoxide alarm on the same floor is worth having; if it sounds, switch off and ventilate before calling.

What Goes Wrong on a Montigo in Maple Ridge Homes

The complaints we take on a Montigo around Maple Ridge reflect long burners, glass media, and fan-driven venting. Most are fixed on the first visit once the series is known.

  • Flame ribbon broken into patches - glass media piled unevenly over the concealed burner, or a section of the ribbon port clogged with debris.

  • Exemplar will not light at all - the power vent fan has not proven, from a tripped breaker, a failed fan motor, or a blocked termination.

  • LED uplighting dark or one colour only - a failed light strip or controller on a Distinction or Full Load unit; the fire is unaffected.

  • See-through unit cloudy on one face - the second face of a Divine or Phenom see-through is cleaned less often and fogs first.

  • Outdoor-room unit dirtier than indoor ones - DelRay units approved for covered outdoor rooms collect pollen and dust on the glass and media faster.

Long fireplaces also show small problems more clearly. A single blocked port or a patch of uneven media is easy to miss on a 36-inch firebox. On a 60 or 72-inch DelRay Linear it reads as a visible gap in the flame line, so owners of the widest models tend to call sooner.

Booking a Montigo Visit in Maple Ridge

Before you call, find the rating plate behind the lower trim or louver panel and photograph it, along with the front of the fireplace. Tell us whether there is a power vent fan anywhere on the run. Chimney Sweep Maple Ridge technicians are licensed gas fitters with insurance for the work, and a first visit levels the media, tests the ignition, cleans the glass on every face, and checks the vent or power vent from end to end. A linear unit from this maker with its media kept at the right depth burns cleanly for many seasons.
